Boiling off Photoshop

I had a bit of a brain wave today in terms of something that I’m always looking out or when working in a learning and teaching environment.

I’ve been looking for a way to explain photoshop in a very condensed way for new users. Not just that it is an image manipulation program but how does it work, what do you need to be able to understand it on a core level. What simple concept is the most useful to have in your head.

It boils down to this :

Selection / Action

You make a indicate what artof the image you want to act on (selection)

You invoke an action (Filter / Adjustment / Tool / transform / whatever)

I mean I guess that is kind of all computing but it describes very well what you are doing.
